The words “I love you” must be some of the most nurturing and meaningful words we can hear. A true gift from one person to another.
We hope to hear this within our personal relationships, our parents, our siblings, our children, our close friends, but imagine hearing this from a client, imagine telling a client you loved them.
Why are these most powerful words not used more in business? Why am I so motivated to encourage it?
Sadly, I never heard these words from my parents. I know they loved me, ‘acts of service’ and duty were there way of expressing their love, yet I yearned so deeply to hear the words. I believe the thirst for these words my entire life, not even heard when they were dying, has given me the superpower of not fearing the use of these words.
Love is the opposite of fear, in a world that has so much fear placed on people, to bring love into business is a stunning antidote.
The impact of loving people can create boundless courage and the most open conversations. Through courage and open discussions, we learn the real needs of those we seek to serve.
Does loving someone place you in a vulnerable position? Perhaps it does, you open your heart. However, in the words of The Rose, which was ironically my dad’s favourite song and played at his funeral, love is the best way to live, so don’t fear it:
It’s the heart, afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It’s the dream, afraid of waking
That never takes the chance
It’s the one who won’t be taken
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul, afraid of dying
That never learns to live
Love is a central emotion in a community, but found rarely in networks. However, we can all create it, or join places that have this as a high value.
This week, perhaps consider the impact on your wellbeing when you find and give love in business, as Tj Power teaches our BIP100 members each week, our wellbeing is very linked to our brain chemicals (neuroscience), and one chemical we all need is Oxytocin. Through love and connection, we can have a profound impact on our own wellbeing.
The world is very receptive to love now, as we fight the desire around us to love in fear, so my pondering this week is reach out, have conversations and express love, you might find this gives you the greatest boost in your week.
With love
