Hello and thank you for opening my ‘Ponderings’. I write these in real time just before we send it out as these literally are the thoughts I have most recently pondered. They are driven by conversations with business owners plus my own reality, so I feel they may reflect emotions and mindsets – in real time.
I am actually writing this from our motorhome, away for 3 weeks traveling the Scottish North Coast. Battling wind and rain and the cold, not what we imagined. But it is still marvelous.
My pondering this week is therefore about how we choose to see the world, can we be grateful, hopeful, excited, happy, despite expectations not being met?
I was given this formula recently…
”Happiness = reality – expectations”
So how do we manage our mindset when expectations in life and business are not met? Do we spiral downhill with disappointment and drag everyone else down with us, or do we accept the reality and look for the joy within the reality?
My observations this week are that, through tough times, the ones who stay happy are the ones who do not allow the reality to define their happiness. Somehow, they use the power of acceptance to redefine their reality.
I have experienced, within myself, a superpower that until I hit tough times in my life I was not aware existed, and that superpower is ‘to be happy’. It comes from appreciating small moments, small wins, and being grateful for my reality. We all create Plan A with all our life and business plans and ambitions, however, how often do we actually have to navigate Plan B and do we do it happily?
So, this week, I have enjoyed talking to people about their expectations and their realities and how they navigated the gaps that can appear. We all have a superpower of happiness within us, it is about how flexible we are and whether we choose to see the light within each moment we are given.
Rain or shine, this week, I wish you happiness and I know that feeling is within us all, if we choose to see it.
I guess this quote that we have all seen many times is appropriate to these ponderings and a plaque that I bought some years ago..
“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning how to dance in the rain.”
Enjoy your dance.
With love
