There are no less than three arts trails which start today so after breakfast we jumped in the car and arrived at a place called Blagdon. It is in the Chew Valley and a very old village.
You can tell it is old by the very small gardens, picture-esque though they may be, and streets that are not widen enough for parking but we stopped first as an artist called Chris Holden who had lived in London for at least 35 years pursuing a career as a painting conservator and restorer at the Tate Britain, previously called the Tate Gallery in London.
He is now an anti-war and activist artist. He had a huge art library and a room to match and it became clear that he was passionately dedicated to exposing hypocrisy, the manufacture of wars for Economic purposes, and the general corruption in the pharmaceutical industry. He had books relevant to the subject and was offering them in exchange for a donation, an offer that I gladly accepted.
I had a peer to peer chat with him and talked about my own attempts to enlighten the public and told him about my websites. I commented that such occupations can be lonely and that we should actively seek support from those on the same wavelength which in this part of Somerset is easier said than done. I’ve just so admire people like this and told him so.
We then moved on to a collective Art Group called The breakaway Art Group which was exhibiting in Churchill, a small town that I had not heard of before. I bought some coasters and chatted to one or two as I normally do. However, nothing could distract me from the wonderful example given by Chris.
On the way home we dropped in at the old stone circles in Stanton Drew. The buttercups were out in full force which gave the field an almost supernatural view what would the setting sun and so on.
Then we went to a curiosity pub and had some local cider and finally we realized we’d run out of steam so back home
