A crazy Gemini Day as it happens
So this is going to be one of those days when us Geminis leap around in various directions at once. Geminis cannot stand boredom. We are cheap to maintain as we are a 24/7 entertainment machine. We do not stop. We have a Peter Pan quality. Age is a number. We are sometimes difficult to live with.
Here is a blow by bow account of some of today’s features

Paying less for a book
A friend of mine told me about a 2025 version of a book called how to complain on sale at 1395. I refused to pay full price for anything and I’ve discovered a great site called worldofbooks.com where I found the same book available for £4.80 including postage. That’s called a ‘no brainer’ but ha ha you need sufficient brains to know that it is a no brainer
Government Hypocrisy
I am disgusted that the government have not yet settled the post office workers’ claims after so many years with about half waiting for full compensation including the famous Mr Bates. I saw this on ITV and amazingly their digital clock which appears on the bottom right hand of their screen showed 07.32 when in fact it was 08.32. How is it that no one notices?
I’m reminded of the messages on the trams in Croydon, London where an announcement is given of the name of the next stop. The male voice says ‘next stock’. Now there are only two words involved in this announcement apart from the destination name itself. What sort of impersonal machine or shall we say lack of collective responsibility enables this ‘stock’ to be uttered month after month year after year.
Yet another support service?
In connection with my recent word press meeting in Bristol. (ibid). I made an offer to them to create an internet forum type of support system where everyone who attended the meeting could continue their conversation. I wrote off to one of the committee members but so far no response.
People, committees in particular, tend to take any form of suggestion as a threat or challenge and I don’t mean it that way. I’m therefore writing to my web developer asking him what he thinks the best client is, or whether WordPress itself will do the job via the comments section. Perhaps Mailpoet is a good idea
The committee did in fact write back to me today via a very positive and professional letter saying that they would prefer that I spent my energies finding speakers because they did not feel that a supporting website would add materially to the quality of the group and if I wanted to speak to someone (assuming I have the time of course) then I should do so.
I do not entirely agree with them but the difference is that they are the committee and I am not so sometimes you have to swallow your feelings and just carry on which I’m quite happy to do because it’s fun going along to the meetings.
The red carpet vs carpeting vs carpet bombing vs carpet of flowers
As you know I love the English language and I’m a bit of a Word Smith. Yesterday it was the BAFTA awards for actors and the red carpet was rolled out. I mused on the difference between the adulation implied by the presence of the carpet and the phrase that we ‘carpet someone’ where we tell them off. It seems a contradiction.
A person ‘on the carpet’ is the process of being reprimanded. It summons up a picture of a boss reprimanding an underling for a misdemeanor. This goes back to the days of the Victorian Civil Service when attainment of a certain status carried with it the right to a piece of carpet in the office. That seems abstruse to me but then, that’s etymology for you. ‘ on the table’ means that a topic is up for discussion.
The term red carpet has a long and distinguished history. The first known mention of a red carpet comes from the 458 B.C. play Agememnon by Aeschylus. In the play when Adememnon returns to Troy his Wife, Clytemnestra, greets him with a “crimson path”.
Agememnon fears walking on the path as it would look like an act of hubris. For more info visit here. https://redcarpetsystems.com/the-history-of-the-red-carpet/
War: We then have the more insidious carpet bombing where a plane will drop its load on anything in sight and hoping through sheer weight of numbers the intended target will be hit
Figurative use: It can also describe a surface or layer that resembles a carpet, like a “carpet of flowers” or a “carpet of leaves”
Preparing for my party
I invite you all to consider what goes through your mind when creating the perfect party. The first thing I have to say is that perfection can never be achieved.
There is a limit to what you can do apart from making sure everyone knows when and where the event is, not inviting people who will fight each other on sight, not over inviting or under inviting that numbers wise and making sure everyone is fed and watered. On the grounds that I do not like football crowds and meaningless conversation I limit my guest list to 16 souls including Francoise and myself.
We are nearly there now so I have invited an artist who is also a teacher to the event. I have never met her but I reckon she’s the right type so if she responds we will have a telephone conversation.
I go the extra mile to make sure everything goes as well as it could do and that includes a week before the event sending a notice of who is coming and a little bit about what they do.
I do not like walking into a room of strangers so why should anybody else so the least I can do is to send out an information sheet in advance.
I do parties the opposite way to everyone else so for example when we are assembled I get everyone to introduce themselves in a couple of sentences so other guests can make a bee line to them if they feel so moved.
Its all in the voice
The voice print gives out so much more information than you can imagine. I believe that It’s part of the built in software to protect us from people who would seek to take advantage of us.
It was Albert Mehrabian, a researcher of body language, who first broke down the components of a face-to-face conversation. He found that communication is 55% nonverbal, 38% vocal, and 7% words only. This is where the idea that the vast majority of communication is nonverbal originated, but does this really mean that less than 10% of information is conveyed in spoken words? See more here
My guests can pick up on the pitch, the rhythm and intensity of the voice which carries a wide range of emotions and intentions which will influence how the listener interprets the message ; there are changes in pitch and rhythm within a sentence that can emphasize certain words or phrases highlighting key information.
Finally of course we have sounds like sighs, gasps or hesitations which also provide valuable contextual information revealing the speaker’s emotional state of thought processes.
It only seems to get worse
According to the National Audit Office (NAO), the cost of the ten-year contracts to provide migrant accommodation has increased from an estimated £4.5 billion to £15.3 billion. The immigration invasion is so wildly out of control that even Labour Prime Minister Keir Starmer has promised today to ‘take back control’ of our borders and ‘lower immigration’.
A Dowsing reading
I did an unexpected psychic or pendulum reading or intuitive reading or whatever you want to call it for someone that I have known for 25 years. I have a somewhat strange if slightly unreliable memory but when I meet someone whether socially or professionally I recall pretty much 100% what they said the previous time even though I have not met them for say five years.
I suppose if we carried all our information in our conscious mind we would be overloaded to the point of mental instability.
I have the very strong sense of being guided and at the very last second something comes into my mind, normally an image, which I describe to my client and most times it makes immediate sense to them.
You could say that the soul works with infinite speed while the left brain takes a little bit of time to catch up. I’m fine with that and it’s almost like you have to listen to yourself about to speak and then adapting the very last moment before the words actually come out of your mouth.
You certainly have to be very alert for this process to work smoothly which is why I like to do most of my work before I am too tired. I should really stop any form of psychic work after about 6 p.m but having said that in cases of emergency I am always available.
Does the rain stay mainly in Spain?
Some of the UK has had no rain for the last two months and this is very serious for the Farmers because they are planting seeds at the moment and moisture is required for the seeds to grow.
We are straying into other territory now but weather modification technology has been around since the 1960s starting with rather crude experiments with silver iodide but this has now been refined with the aid of HAARP (look it up) of which there are many stations play throughout the world. If you want to destroy a country you destroy its agriculture so it has to rely on the supplies from other countries at enhanced cost.
If we combine this with the government policy on taxing capital gains with farmers, plus the unceasing immigration costing ever more and more the future does not look good.
Anyway that’s enough for today. I hope I have made the point that I will never die a boredom as there is always more to do, more books to read, more music to listen to, more videos and podcasts to watch, and perhaps a little time left for tending the garden. Tasks never seems to run out and in a way I don’t mind. Anything is better than sitting around doing nothing.
Ed.
