Did you miss the Shepton Mallet Mid-Somerset show today Sunday 17th?

Reading Time: 9 minutes

We spent most of the day wandering around and just taking pictures so I’m afraid they’re not going to be in any particular order just as I took them. I have put a brief explanation under each one. The weather was perfect and the turnout was excellent. I reckon they could do a two-day show if they wanted but maybe that is too great a demand on peoples time..

There is a certain smell that always puts me off but this type of popular one-size-fits-all stand is probably the most suitable type to have for your average punter. No disrespect intended.

This is definitely a great show for children and they can look very much in charge when for example driving tractors

The energy companies especially the upcoming ones are always represented in some form or another

Probably considered as one of the prime sites when you turn in to the left hand parts of the show, not the field with horses jumping in the car park but the other side

Looking into the largest selection with a horse ring and numerous stalls

You see these £5 £10 £15 probably mostly Chinese made leather goods and clothes and good luck to them

The fire service were doing an excellent job explaining what is involved in the work, both prevention and resolution

A child was definitely ambivalent about having a large mask put over his head

I think they’re called the jaws of life. They definitely don’t take any prisoners and cut through metal without a second thought

an archery stand waiting for customers

A young man making a fine go of it and hopefully building up his confidence

This was an NHS stand. We were invited to be a part of improving health and social care by taking part in various researches. The lady had little idea of what she was talking about.

An artistic rendition of the workings of the body though it looks rather like a tube map to me but never mind we get the idea

Some lusty performances from local musicians will be good so we sat around in the sun and drank our coffee or our cider and just chilled out. There is something healing about acoustic music so we lingered for some time

It’s difficult to convey the size of this place without actually being there but there was plenty of room for the thousands of people who attended

This was probably the most unmotivating stand. I did not see anyone talk with this woman who looked completely bored. There was nothing on the wall to attract people, just a banner, and the text was too small to read unless you got close so at the end of the day nothing was happening. A stallholder should look at people and try to engage them with the eye. Did she want to be there?

This is a never before been used tyre, brand new, on a moderate sized tractor. It is about two metres high.It is by no means the largest tyre available

We are in the competition tent now and I absolutely love this jacket which stands out a mile away in a crowd and a little bit further down you can see what the reverse side looked like

I can’t remember what the media used was but it was hyper realistic

children’s art – guess what the theme was

Would you believe pasta based at least so far as the rainbow is concerned

More pasta based art –  quite a joy to see

This is the back of the jacket I showed you a few pictures up. Isn’t it lovely

I have a sneaking suspicion that someone has modified the suspension

It’s part of showing your car that you have a picnic and some fellowship at the same time

There is only one Robin Reliant. This has been customized and turned into a three wheeler

Congratulations to the organisers for persuading so many tractor owners to turn up

Another view of the tractors

Well now,  these two cars are head turners as we would say. They would stand out in any crowd

I took no interest in this one at all but obviously the youngsters loved it. I guess it is hall of mirrors inside

Well either it has been rigged to win or the highland cows are very inexpensive to produce

This is a sophisticated version of a bouncy castle;  you could certainly bounce up and down to your heart’s content. The kids were loving it.

Sheep being judged

Are these sheep for real? They look rusty in colour so do they need WD40 to clean them up

Another scaremongering stand. Anyone would think that animals have no immune system

Into the cheese tent now and this one was sold £100 which I think is excellent value for money

I don’t know what a fudge store is doing here

A huge selection of cheeses for judging

I’m not into the world of gin but I was offered a 57% proof 500CC bottle for a special price of £46. It did taste delicious when I was given a sample but I resisted.

This one was on sale for £30

a cake section. A surefire popular class for competition

These are miniature gardens exquisitely designed by children

What can you say? Perfection?

cows lining up to be judged

You have to know what you’re doing to judge animals of high-quality like this. Fortunately the expertise of generations is here

I’m not sure how you judge fleeces but there were many classes of which this is just one. They were mostly white

A whiter fleece

Yes the sheep do have black eyes or heavy mascara anyway

Another picture of the cheese tent

Anyway folks I hope you get some idea of the variety that was available and if you are free around the same time next year do consider coming. It is a free show and there is plenty for everyone to enjoy

We would love to hear from you...
